The country’s first company to be certified for environmental quality as well as occupational health & safety management systems, Aitken Spence develops and operates; thermal, hydro, wind and waste-to-energy power plants, generating for the national grid. With technical and financial collaboration from leading international partners, these operations are not restricted to Sri Lanka, but undertaken in Bangladesh as well.
Our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services have successfully increased plant efficiency and reliability through continually identifying technical and systemic improvements. Our high levels of reliability, technical and operational capabilities have allowed us to expand operations to Bangladesh. We are also seeking newer and bigger opportunities in this industry both locally and overseas.
Renewable Energy Projects
Renewable energy is an integral part of our sustainability drive. Our wind power plant in Ambewela and hydro power plant in Matale are clear demonstrations of our commitment to clean energy.
Constructed in 2004 in conjunction with Caterpillar Power Ventures of US, this 100 MW, ISO 14001 certified Embilipitiya thermal power plant actively engages in preserving its natural environment. Ayurvedic herbal gardens, vegetable patches and thick bushes surround the plant and exotic moths and honey bees thrive within its perimeters. The 34 acre plot that surrounds the plant is ecological proof that the power plants emissions are below expected standards.
We believe in actively engaging with the communities within which we operate. We have shared knowledge and expertise in projects such as model farming and bee keeping with local youth. We focus on road development, supply of electricity to neighbouring villages and job creation, thereby uplifting the standard of living amongst local communities.
