Aitken Spence Power Celebrates 25 Years

Aitken Spence Power consists of ten (10) Power generation Companies in the Strategic Investments sector of the Group. These Power generation companies are categorized under the independent Power producing segment. The Group entered into the IPP Market in the late 1990’s , when the Power generation was opened to the Private Sector. It all began with the establishment of the two thermal power plants of 24 MW each at Horana and Matara. In 2005 Aitken Spence Power established a 100MW thermal power plant at Embilipitiya initially as a joint venture with Caterpillar Power Ventures of USA. It is the Group’s largest Power Plant.

Apart from thermal energy the sector later diversified its portfolio towards hydro, wind , waste to energy and the latest addition being solar power generation. The waste to energy plant is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka and has been able to generate 10MW to the national grid , by solving the long-standing issue of garbage disposal in the Western Province, thereby contributing towards a national cause.

In keeping with the sustainability policies of the Group, all power plants adhere to strict environmental regulations. Over the years, Aitken Spence Power has achieved rapid growth in terms of technological advancement of operating power plants . The Power segment now aims to extend its portfolio in renewable energy.

Aitken Spence Power celebrates its 25th anniversary today and will strive for continuous excellence . Our employees have been our biggest strength and will always be. As one of the reputed IPP’s in the Country, Aitken Spence Power will continue to serve the nation, even better in the years to come.
