We are one of the first Sri Lankan Companies to become a voluntary signatory of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), becoming part of the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world. A member of the steering committee of the Local Network since 2006, Aitken Spence joined over 8,000 corporate participants to align our sustainability framework with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.
We were also among the first 38 companies in the world to become a signatory of the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles, championing actions that advance and empower women in the workplace, economy and community. We set a precedent yet again by being the first publicly listed company in Sri Lanka to do so.
Aitken Spence is also one of the first companies in Sri Lanka to pledge support to the Caring for Climate initiative, a joint effort by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and UNGC to promote positive climate action in business.
